The 31st Annual La Mesa Classic Car Show & Live Music Event rolls into downtown La Mesa beginning June 5, 2025 - August 28 every Thursday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Visitors can stroll down La Mesa Blvd. to see beautiful classic cars, trucks, and vans (located between 4th St. - Spring St.) and listen to live music every week from local bands that play atop the iconic La Mesa Lumber truck "stage" located at 3rd & La Mesa Blvd. + a DJ, also from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.! Through the power of Chicana and Chicano Art, "The Many Worlds and Identities of Guadalupe" explores Guadalupe as an embodiment of these worlds in an attempt to better understand Chicana/o culture and identity in our contemporary world Alberto López Pulido is the founding chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of San Diego, where he has taught since 2003. A native of San Diego’s South Bay, his upbringing between borders shaped his fronterizo perspective. He began his education at Southwestern College before earning degrees in Sociology and Chicano Studies from UC San Diego. He later completed graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame under the mentorship of Dr. Julian Samora. Pulido’s research explores the intersection of Chicana/o/x communities, spirituality, and cultural expression. His award-winning work on Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Logan Heights is among his important works of scholarship. Shelter to Soldier is excited to announce its 2nd annual Salute to Paws 5K and Gratitude Festival for Dogs on Sunday, November 9, at Fox Point Farms (1200 Fox Point Farms Lane, Encinitas, CA 92024). This fun-filled event aims to raise funds for Shelter to Soldier’s life-changing programs, which rescue dogs from local shelters and train them to become service animals for post-9/11 veterans suffering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, and other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. Join Shelter to Soldier in their mission of “Saving Lives, Two at a Time,” with a morning of fitness, gratitude, and family fun, with or without your four-legged family members.
