The exhibition "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" shares stories of how the construction of race has shaped laws, institutions, and daily life in San Diego and the broader multinational region. Presented in English and Spanish, the exhibition highlights key moments in this region’s complex history of race. Experienced through mixed media, artworks, and accounts from regional archives, the exhibition brings forward important stories and voices often left out of mainstream narratives. Created in collaboration with local artists, researchers, and community leaders, this experience highlights stories, past and present, of how communities have resisted oppression and worked for change. "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" is an invitation and a call to action. It is a space to reflect, connect personal experiences, and take part in ongoing conversations about racial justice and building a more equitable future together. La exposición "Raza: Poder, Resistencia y Cambio" comparte historias sobre cómo la construcción social de la raza ha moldeado las leyes, las instituciones y la vida cotidiana en San Diego y en la región multinacional más amplia. Art All Ways Projects proudly presents "Driven to Transform: Art, Service, and the Spirit of Giving," a curated exhibition and fundraising initiative in collaboration with the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station and the Vista Library. Opening Saturday, December 9, the exhibition honors the strength, resilience, and creative voices of Southern California veterans while celebrating the transformative power of contemporary art. The exhibition runs until Jan. 17. Curated by Hoojung Lee, Director/Curator of Art All Ways Projects, the exhibition brings together artists whose work explores transformation, humanity, identity, and renewal through bold visual expression. Featured artists include Retna, Salomon Huerta, Ana Morales-Huerta, Justin Bower, Carlos Ramirez, Umar Rashid, Simphiwe Ndzube, Nyame Brown, Jay Sylvester, Ann Bedrick, Ryan Campbell, Cristopher Cichocki, Juan Carlos Muñoz Hernandez (a.k.a. Heaven), and Zes, alongside veteran artists Wm Marquez (a.k.a. Wm Schinsky), Reginald Green, and Steven Dilley from the Southern California veteran art community. The opening reception will feature a live painting activation by acclaimed graffiti artist Juan Carlos Muñoz Hernandez (a.k.a. Heaven), as well as a collaborative “Transformation Table” where veteran artists and contemporary artists will work together on a large, evolving canvas created specifically for this exhibition. These interactive elements invite visitors to witness creativity in motion and experience the exhibition’s theme of transformation firsthand. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, Driven to Transform offers visitors a space to reflect on resilience—both personal and collective—while building meaningful bridges between the arts and the veteran community. A portion of the proceeds from artwork sold during the exhibition will benefit the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, whose mission is to support, empower, and uplift wounded and injured veterans on their path toward recovery and reintegration into civilian life. The Children's Holiday Ornament and Library Decorating Day is an annual Coronado Library tradition. Each year, kids make two ornaments – one for the Children's Area tree and one to take home. This year’s ornament is a melted snowman using materials made from our 3-D Printer in the Digital Media Lab! Kids and families can enjoy refreshments while making their ornaments and other holiday crafts. This year we will be making festive paper chains to decorate the children's area and cookies to wear in the holiday parade. Those who would like to walk with the Library in the Holiday Parade on Friday, December 5 are welcome to join us starting at 5:30 in the Winn Room that day! Sarah Beckman is Executive Director of Outside The Lens (OTL), a San Diego nonprofit media arts organization that engages 2,700+ young people annually—97% from systemically marginalized communities—to build creative confidence, explore career pathways, and drive social impact through storytelling. A creative strategist and visual storyteller with 25 years of nonprofit leadership, Sarah has guided Outside The Lens from a grassroots organization into a recognized innovator in creative youth development and media literacy, partnering with institutions like The Getty Museum on Voice Out, a regional exhibition that amplifies the perspectives of young artists. Sarah’s leadership philosophy is simple: create conditions for others to thrive. Whether expanding programs like Media Makers—which serves young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—or securing catalyst funding for Balboa Park's Botanical Building during her tenure at Forever Balboa Park, she leads with curiosity and trust. She’s also the creative mind behind Culture & Cocktails at the San Diego Museum of Art and has presented at Public Lands Alliance and International Placemaking Week conferences. A Minnesota native with degrees in Journalism and Gender & Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Sarah was recently named a 2025 San Diego Magazine Nonprofit Pioneer. A writer and photographer who believes in magic, hustle, and flow, she lives in Rancho Peñasquitos with her husband and twin sons who attend Cal Poly.
