Get ready to team up with your friends and MCASD educators in an awesome showdown for the fate of the museum–an art collision between Heroes and Monsters. Spend the week designing your own Hero and Monster inspired by the Museum's collection: Learn how to use art for good by developing your own art superpowers. Create a persona by dawning masks and capes influenced by Nick Cave. Use John Baldessari's conceptual powers to fight "Boring Art." Schedule Day 1: Start the week by imagining your superhero, or good-monster alter-ego, and its artful superpowers! Then, create your helmet. Day 2: Make your shield and cape and create dice to guide your way. She has a master’s degree in painting in Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Art, where she studied at the portrait-genre workshop under the guidance of professors Victor Chaus and Vasily Ganotskiy. Among her many accolades, she has been a curator of the Drawing Studio at the National Union of Artists of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia. In 2017 she opened a studio of academic painting ‘V-ART’ and taught painting, drawing, plastic anatomy, coloring, and composition at the collegiate level. In 2022, she was evacuated to the USA due to the war in Ukraine. Over the past 2 years she has created around 300 paintings, and takes part in art shows throughout San Diego. “I think it is, like musical notes, that in painting, we do not have borders, we do not have words, and we have Inspiration… Pure Inspiration is indescribable; you can just feel and take it. That’s precisely why I would like to share these paintings, which were created in San Diego County and reflect the light and landscapes that inspire me every day. Taking place at both ICA North in Encinitas and ICA Central in Balboa Park, our 2025 summer art camp for kids and teens is designed to promote mental health and inspire creativity. Young artists in San Diego County will explore art making with a variety of supplies, acquire new skills by expanding on their art making techniques, and continue to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities under the guidance of a teaching artist during each of our one-of-a-kind week of project-based camps. A Slice of History: Pizza & Prints is a hands-on program where participants will learn about craftivism—the use of crafting as a tool for activism—and explore how people throughout history have used handmade art to spark change.
