The San Dieguito Art Guild, a non-profit group, hosts their 28th annual Mother’s Day Weekend Art, Garden & Studio Tour. This is a self-guided, driving tour on Saturday and Sunday, Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are good for both days and homes may be re-visited. Take your mom or best friends on a leisurely tour of the 8 North San Diego County homes where you can peruse more than 30 unique exhibits of locally made art, and relax in each unique coastal or inland garden. Artists from the San Dieguito Art Guild will be positioned in the gardens — showing and selling their paintings, ceramics, glass, gourd art, fiber arts, photography, jewelry, and much more. Free refreshments will be served at every stop. The year’s tour includes an eclectic group of eight homes, gardens, and art studios including a garden that has been almost 50 years in the making, an outdoor kitchen/bar, a chicken coop, a vineyard with several varieties of grape vines, a patio area with a spiral stair case, a lawn that was torn out and replaced with special tiles made on site by the hosts, a beautiful view of the ocean, a meticulously tended rose garden, a built-in wine cellar, a serene babbling brook, and twin stag horn ferns. This two-day event is the major fund-raiser of the year for the San Dieguito Art Guild. Without funds from this tour the Guild would operate at a loss. Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased at the Off Track Gallery (937 South Coast Highway 101, Suite C-103, Encinitas), at each home both days of the tour. Ticket sales begin in early April. Well behaved children 17 and under are free. This is a favorite tour of many San Diegans — many of whom take this tour year after year. In keeping with their Mission Statement, “The San Dieguito Art Guild is an organization dedicated to furthering artistic understanding and fostering artistic growth of members and the community at large by promoting interest, education, knowledge and skills in the visual arts”, 10% of the net proceeds from the tour will be awarded to several promising art students. In addition, one of the homes will host "T.E.R.i," an organization that helps people with special needs live fulfilling lives. The new Media Arts Complex will house a variety of functions, serving the students of the arts hub and the campus. It will include a new Art Gallery, two computer labs, a film studies classroom, student study and collaboration spaces, faculty offices, the Media Arts labs and extensive display areas for student art. Lucas Smith, celebrated award-winning artist and resident of San Diego, California, showcases his latest solo exhibition “Beyond the Boundaries: An Exploration in Abstract Art” at Studio 21 in April. This collection is an invitation to experience nature’s beauty through abstraction—to feel its presence, energy, and serenity in a way that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. It explores the dynamic interplay of color, texture and movement. In the past year, Lucas’s work has been juried in dozens of shows in some of San Diego’s best galleries and was awarded Best of Show, two 1st place, two 2nd place, Juror’s Choice, three Honorable Mentions and People’s Choice. He is a juried member of the Professional Artist group and is resident of Studio 2 at Art on 30th in North Park. Lucas is the Assistant Director of the San Diego Watercolor Society’s 45th International Exhibition and a member of North Coastal Art Gallery, OMA Artist Alliance, Sargent Art Group, and Foothills Art Association. He also recently launched Art Connect, a Facebook group that links artists to opportunities while encouraging collaboration and mutual support. Lucas’s art continues flying off the easel with 55 paintings sold in the past year through solo exhibitions, juried gallery shows, and private commissions.
