Sabrosas Latin Orchestra, San Diego’s first and only all-female salsa band and a 501(c)(3) organization, is celebrating five years of community, music, and fun in 2024. Founded after identifying a unique opportunity to unite as female musicians, the band brings a shared love of salsa and Latin music to audiences throughout Southern California. With a commitment to serving the community, Sabrosas partners with local schools through mentorship programs as well as organizations like the San Diego Latino Film Festival and San Diego Pride, enlivening the cultural landscape. Sabrosas is proud to have performed at venues such as Cafe Sevilla, the Belly Up, NAMM, and numerous community festivals. Looking ahead, the band is focusing on writing and recording original music, and of course, will continue to inspire and entertain, reinforcing their dedication to bringing Latin music to audiences of all ages. Sheryl White and Jennifer Greenfield will serve as the Celebration Co-Chairs for this one-night-only fundraising event, which honors 90 years of theatre that lives beyond the stage, with Darlene Marcos Shiley as the Honorary Chair. Guests will experience an incredible evening, complete with exquisite dining, craft cocktails, and live entertainment, featuring an electrifying performance by Tony Award-nominated actor and Grammy and Emmy Award-winning songwriter/composer Christopher Jackson. Best known for his portrayal of George Washington in the critically acclaimed Broadway sensation "Hamilton." This black-tie event begins at 5:30 p.m. with signature cocktails by Snake Oil Cocktail Company and hors d’oeuvres on the Globe’s Copley Plaza. At 6:30 p.m. inside the Old Globe Theatre, Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein will lead a special 90th Anniversary Celebration presentation highlighting the Globe’s mission and its impact on the community, followed by a special and exclusive performance by Christopher Jackson. Ages 6-12 years welcome! Calling all young artists and nature lovers! In this 2-part pottery class, kids will design and sculpt their very own whimsical homes–perfect for garden fairies or friendly frogs. In the first 2.5 hour session, children will learn hand-building techniques to shape their magical dwellings from clay, adding creative touches like leaf roofs, mushroom chimneys, lily pad porches, and more. In the second 1-hour session, held two weeks later, they’ll bring their creations to life with vibrant paints and glazes. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class.
