King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship. Growing up together in Yirrkala North-East Arnhem Land (a very remote Aboriginal community on in the northern tip of Australia) founding members Theo Dimathaya Burarrwanga (frontman) and Roy Kellaway (guitar) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember. The band blend ancient indigenous melodies (Yolŋu Manikay) with surf, indie and funk influences to create their unique “Yolŋu surf-rock” sound which has captivated the nation. Hailed as "one of the most exciting acts in the country today" (NME), King Stingray took out triple j's "Unearthed Artist of the Year" J Award for 2021, NME Australia's "Best New Act From Australia" and Rolling Stone Australia's "Best New Artist" award all before an album was released. Their much-anticipated debut LP "King Stingray" dropped in August 2022, supported by a typically cheeky campaign encouraging fans to take #kingstingday off to celebrate the album’s release. The band was nominated for a whopping five ARIA Awards (including a win for the "Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist"). In 2023 the band won the "Australian Music Prize." San Diego’s signature celebration of sound and soul is back with grace, groove, and timeless class as the Sunset Finale of the 14th Annual Jazz At The Creek returns Labor Day Weekend - Saturday and Sunday, August 30 - 31, for two unforgettable days of live music, elegance, and unity within the community at a new location: The Educational Cultural Complex South Lawn in the heart Southeast San Diego 4343 Ocean View Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92113. This annual festival continues its legacy of showcasing some of the finest national and local talent in jazz, soul, and gospel, while creating a space where mature audiences can relax, connect, and enjoy world-class performances in an elevated outdoor setting. This year’s lineup brings a mix of smooth, funky, and uplifting sounds, headlined by legendary saxophonist Gerald Albright, whose performance is a masterclass in musicianship and style. Joining him on Sunday are sultry soul artist Rebecca Jade, gospel group The Group Fire, known for their tight harmonies and powerful stage presence, and San Diego’s hometown vocalist- Brittany Spaulding.
