Please note, if bringing your own sewing machine, it is very important to make sure it is fully functional before class. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before or need a refresher after time away, this introductory class is designed to give you a solid foundational understanding of how to use a sewing machine so that you can step into our project-based classes with confidence. You’ll learn how to wind a bobbin; thread the machine; adjust stitch length/width; use decorative stitches; sew gentle curves; pivot and turn corners (on the machine and with the iron); and experiment with buttonholes and elastic. You’ll leave with a stitch sampler notebook cover and inner journal so you can take notes through the class and leave with a tactile reminder of your new skills! This class is ideal for ages 12+, 8-12yrs can attend with a dedicated adult helper. All materials included.   • Bay to Park Paseo offers free guided tours along Park Boulevard from San Diego Bay to Balboa Park to see engaging installations designed by leading San Diego creators. Tours start from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and happen monthly, the first and third Saturdays from May 18, 2024 through Sept. 21, 2024. Endorsed as an Impact Project of World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024, the 1.7-mile paseo was created to encourage walking and to highlight the easy connection between two of San Diego’s crown jewels, the Bay and Balboa Park. The Paseo includes up to 13 impermanent installations outside iconic locations along Park Boulevard designed by San Diego’s leading designers and artists. KhabaarCo Supper Club is a literary supper club presented by author and TEDx speaker, Mahushree Ghosh, highlighting change makers, activists, writers, and leaders. The debut event will be an exciting conversation with debut author Priyanka Mattoo on the peripatetic search for home from Kashmir to England to Saudi Arabia to Los Angeles. Mattoo holds degrees in Italian and law from the University of Michigan and currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and kids. Madhushree Ghosh works in oncology diagnostics, and is a social justice activist. Her work has been awarded a Notable Mention in Best American Essays in Food Writing and a Pushcart Prize nomination. She is the author of the award-winning memoir, Khabaar: An Immigrant Journey of Food, Memory, and Family and she lives in San Diego, California.
