Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. Highland Way Brian – As the founding member of Highland Way Brian is an enthusiastic and energetic singer and rhythm guitar player. Immersed in Celtic music while growing up in Glasgow, Scotland and having specialized in sound engineering at the prestigious Strathclyde University, Brian hit the road. Now residing in North San Diego County in California, he regularly plays live fronting the five / six piece Highland Way. Brian has successfully lead Highland Way to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the largest indoor theater in the USA, the 3000 seat Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, the Redlands Bowl 5000 seat amphitheater and many others. When not performing, writing or producing under the ‘Highland Way Productions’ label you can find him shooting world class photos, walking his dog or riding waves. Paul – Lead Fiddle / mandolin / banjo/ bass and most anything with strings. Paul’s been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 50 years. Somewhere in that time he also picked up guitar, bass, banjo and keyboards. Paul’s an accomplished song writer and arranger having played with ‘The Chieftains’, ‘The Young Dubliners’, ‘Blended Spirits’, ‘Ken O’ Mally’, and regularly performed in LA’s oldest Irish Pub Molly Malone’s with ‘Garrison White’, and ‘Glen Cornick’, original bass player for ‘Jethro Tull’. This two-day workshop will focus on drawing skills, perspective, and architecture, and integrating them into the plein air process and composition. Meet up at the Athenaeum entrance. Grab a coffee (there will be a demo at the beginning of class), unwind, and gear up for an enjoyable day of painting. Class will conclude with an in-person critique in the studio Materials: portable easel; four 8” x 10” or 6” x 8”, good quality canvas boards; half-dozen brushes, white bristle flat or filbert, # 2, #4, #6. One medium-size steel palette knife; small, pointed round brush for detail #2–#4. Paper towels; odorless turpentine; small jar for turpentine, wood palette; oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium Cadmium Lemon, Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Permalba White, Raw Umber, Cadmium Orange. It is an open grassland with views of the mountains and is especially beautiful in spring. Outdoor study is the key to painting successful landscapes in the studio and an excellent way to learn to observe color, light, and aerial perspective. This two-day workshop will focus on composition and color mixing with a limited palette. Class begins each day with a demo and plein air session followed by group critique. "Remembering Humanity / Recordando a la Humandid" is the thesis MALAS SDSU exhibition by artist X Vasquez. The exhibition includes seven artists who created artworks utilizing found objects from the border wall open air detention centers and surrounding areas. Vasquez and other volunteers worked offering immediate aid at the border wall during last years influx of border crossers. Volunteers passed food, blankets, and clothing through the wall to refugees seeking asylum at the San Diego border.
