Body Rock Dance Competition, the Iconic International Dance Event, is celebrating its 25th year of production. Beginning in the year 2000, BODY ROCK has grown to a huge platform for aspiring dancers in the Global Dance Community. With its humble beginnings on a gym floor in San Diego, our passion for dance and hip hop came from the spread of dance teams up and down California. We presented one of the first dance competitions to showcase street dance crews and professional choreography teams and the rest was history! With the creation of Youtube in the mid 2000’s, our show went viral and transformed the accessibility of dance crew videos and changed how dancers were viewed in the mainstream media. We continue to influence the atmosphere of local dance creating outlets for youth, maintaining a safe and inclusive staff, and promoting authentic community relationships. We not only helped to move our dance community forward, but created a path for the next generation of dancers. Our legacy includes groups and choreographers such as the Jabbawockeez, Keone & Mari Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, The Kinjaz and Tessandra Chavez. Some crews like Korea’s “Just Jerk” have also become Viral on Youtube and TikTok with over millions of views. Annually, our show draws a crowd of +2000 people and our participants now include groups from Mexico, Germany, New Zealand, China, Australia, Korea, Russia, the Philippines and Japan! We have also expanded and have qualifier shows in Asia and Latin America. Musician, composer, and multidisciplinary artist Preston Swirnoff will present "SILO Chords, a site-specific installation and performance in Bread & Salt’s Silo Room. Swirnoff’s piece is written for choir, organ, and analog tape loops. He will be joined by members of San Diego New Verbal Workshop, a community choir that performs contemporary and avant-garde vocal music. Swirnoff’s composition explores the many surprising possibilities of the chord and the unique acoustic properties of the recently re-activated silo space, built over 100 years ago with 40 foot high flour tanks once used by the old bread factory. DJ’s from Particle FM will spin records on the patio, with a special menu of food and drinks served by Alchemy. This installation/performance continues a series of sound and visual art works by Swirnoff in unconventional spaces over the past year that has taken him to an ancient cave in Greece, a 12th century castle in Sicily, a high-rise rooftop in Sofia, Bulgaria, and a giant walled garden in Oaxaca. His immersive and intimate sound works have been described in connection to a lineage of site-specific composers such as La Monte Young, Pauline Oliveros, Iannis Xenakis, Alvin Curran, and György Ligeti.

Bach Collegium San Diego Presents Knock out Sounds with Reginald Mobley The Return of Bach to Bop Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD), one of the country’s leading baroque ensembles, is performing with countertenor d'Amore Reginald Mobley who showcases the thin lines between the worlds of baroque and jazz. The repertoire, from J.S. Bach and Purcell to Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald, explores the world of improvisation, ornamentation, pulsating bass lines, and most importantly, groove. “When exploring the world of Baroque music and where it intersects with jazz, who better to lead the way than one of the great countertenors of this generation, Reginald Mobley,” said BCSD Musical Director Ruben Valenzuela. “We're incredibly fortunate to have him back with BCSD after the success of Bach to Bop from a few years ago. Get ready...from Purcell and Bach to Sarah Vaughan and Duke Ellington!" BCSD partnered with local schools to develop an education curriculum surrounding this program and the similarities and differences (and historical timeline of the genres) of baroque and jazz music. The pilot program is in development but BCSD is planning on having the students perform a piece or two on the concert program as a culmination of this special program. Bach Collegium San Diego engages audiences with accessible, historically informed performances and educational programs featuring repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras. The ensemble was founded in 2003 by Music Director Ruben Valenzuela to diversify the musical offerings of the San Diego community.
