Teens ages 11+ can create a small rug from scratch! Rugs have a deep history as textile art and as objects that create specific spaces. Using handheld tufting machines, participants can create and design their rugs using colorful yarn. This is a two-part class! In this first session, learn how to create and translate a design for the medium, learn the basics of tufting, and begin filling in your designs. This remarkable journey underscores the inherent challenges that accompany our evolution, ultimately leading to a complete and awe-inspiring rebirth as a butterfly. In this soul-searching book arts workshop, we will engage in introspective guided writing prompts and indulgent improvisation to transform the enigmatic shifts in our lives into a book structure, handcrafted from a single sheet of paper. These creations will unfold like butterfly wings illustrated with found-imagery collage and text. By attuning to our hearts and quieting our minds, these collaged books will help us make sense of our life experiences. This process will enable us to explore new poetic avenues and gain fresh creative insights. Collage is a calming and meditative practice, suitable for all skill levels. Fiber Fest Upcycling & Mending Fun! Sunday, June 15, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. We are excited to offer this fun Sunday workshop for Fiber Fest! Join us for a morning of creative mending in good company. Come learn simple hand sewing techniques in order to turn your damaged clothing items into a one-of-a-kind garments. In this 2-hour class with upcycling sewist Keira McGee, you will practice hand sewing stitches and have the opportunity to repair a piece of your own clothing. Please be prepared with an item or two from your closet that are in need of some mending. We suggest items such as jeans and button down shirts, but feel free to bring several options. All other materials will be provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for ages 14 years and older. All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 2nd annual Fiber Fest! Join in the main day of festivities on Saturday, June 14th, for a day filled with fiber fun!
