This remarkable journey underscores the inherent challenges that accompany our evolution, ultimately leading to a complete and awe-inspiring rebirth as a butterfly. In this soul-searching book arts workshop, we will engage in introspective guided writing prompts and indulgent improvisation to transform the enigmatic shifts in our lives into a book structure, handcrafted from a single sheet of paper. These creations will unfold like butterfly wings illustrated with found-imagery collage and text. By attuning to our hearts and quieting our minds, these collaged books will help us make sense of our life experiences. This process will enable us to explore new poetic avenues and gain fresh creative insights. Collage is a calming and meditative practice, suitable for all skill levels. Expressive Arts @ 32 & Thorn features surrealist artist Ty Bennett whose recent work is a response to a period of deep reflection after a devastating fire in Colorado that destroyed all his possessions. His colorful and intense surrealist paintings express his passions of art, philosophy, and poetry. Exhibit runs February 8 through March 29, 2025. Sunday, June 15, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Come and explore the gorgeous natural blue of indigo in this Fiber Fest Sunday workshop. Students will learn a range of shibori dye resist processes in this hands-on, creative workshop, including tegumo (spiderweb), ori nui (stitched), and itajime (clamped) shibori methods. We will be using a natural indigo vat to dye a bamboo scarf and better understand the process and symbiotic relationship with indigo dye and this traditional textile surface design. Students will acquire the basic techniques to continue their journey into creating beautiful, unique textiles. This class is appropriate for ages 14+ years old. No prior experience necessary. All ages welcome! All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 2nd annual Fiber Fest!
