In collaboration with Blk Girls Who Garden, we’ll showcase the beauty of Black leadership, legacy, and unity in gardening. Together, we’ll create an unforgettable experience filled with hands-on planting, storytelling, and activities that inspire harmony with the land and each other. Learn how to draw the human figure, hone your existing skills, and develop some new ones. This class is for all levels of skill. Materials: Newsprint pad, 18” x 24”; soft vine charcoal; kneaded eraser. You are welcome to bring along any materials not on the list that you already have and would like to use. San Diego farmers and farms are the focus of "California Grown, Plein Air" exhibition at the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center May 17 – June 20, 2025. In the Spring of 2025, plein air painters from around San Diego County painted at farms, documenting the diverse types of farms in the region. Juror Katie Stokes, the editor of Edible San Diego Magazine, will select her favorite artworks during the reception, Saturday May 17 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. "Edible San Diego magazine has been celebrating local food in farms and gardens for 17 years. Our region's many beautiful valleys, hills, creeks, rich history and diverse plant and animal life make it a haven to grow food or enjoy the harvests of farmers, ranchers and fishers. We are delighted to support this show and the Bonita Historical Society to share the artists' perspectives and talents on this delicious topic."- Katie Stokes Artists in the exhibition include: Liz Abeyta, Andrew ‘Drew’ Bandish, Lorraine Marie Cote, Brian Gibson, Rose Irelan, Margaret Larlham, Chrysanne Lowe, Frankie Martin, Doreen Mattingly, Carmelita Molina, Michelle Montrose, Kathryn Peterson, Nina Pierson, Indu Ramkumar, Elisabeth Refn, Jenny Rivera, Sarah Sullivan, Valorie Thompson, Joyce Trinh and Mehl Lawson Sketchbooks by members of San Diego Urban Sketchers will also be featured in the exhibition. Participants can meet at the museum at 9 a.m. to find maps and coffee for the paint-out. Artwork from the paint-out will be displayed for sale in the “wet gallery”. Artist Rose Irelan will be leading a plein air painting workshop on Friday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required through the museum website on the exhibitions page. MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra (MCCSO) and the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) Young Artists Showcase II The MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra would like to invite you to join us for an eventful evening of music making featuring the incredibly talented young artist winners of the MTAC of San Diego’s concerto competition. A true rarity, Vivaldi’s recently discovered, seldom performed masterpiece is set in Mexico during the Spanish conquest that led to the end of the Aztec Empire. While this 18th century opera is a highly romanticized and naive take on the historical events of over 200 years earlier, it nevertheless is surprisingly sensitive and empathetic to the tragedy of the Aztecs as they fight for their land and the survival of their culture and people. Prog-Rock Powerhouse Stick Men Return to San Diego with Chapman Stick Virtuoso Tom Griesgraber Nearly two years since their last San Diego performance, Stick Men — the progressive rock supergroup featuring Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, and Markus Reuter — return to the Bornemann Theater in San Marcos. This marks a special homecoming of sorts, as Mastelotto and Reuter were the first national touring act to perform at the Bornemann’s Grand Opening in May 2024, along with Trey Gunn as part of their band TU-NER. Formed in 2007, Stick Men is known for their adventurous sound built around electric touch-style instruments like the Chapman Stick and the self-designed U8 guitar. Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) anchors the trio with his mastery of the Chapman Stick, an instrument that simultaneously covers both bass and melody. Mastelotto brings an innovative approach to percussion, blending acoustic drums with an electronic setup, while Reuter adds layers of depth and texture with his custom instrument. Combined, the band’s members have contributed to records selling over 100 million copies worldwide. Opening the night is renowned Chapman Stick player Tom Griesgraber, whose genre-blending performances often include guitar Theremin and collaborations with artists from the California Guitar Trio to RYMO featuring Slightly Stoopid’s drummer Ryan Moran. With over ten releases and a resume that includes touring with Jerry Marotta and opening for legends like Steve Hackett and Al DiMeola, Griesgraber’s set promises a diverse and compelling lead-in to the night’s headliners.
