Sunday, March 26 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (w/1hr lunch break) Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a sustainably harvested wooden Rigid Heddle Loom and soft natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, instructor Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. All materials included. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! In this workshop you’ll learn: * How a Rigid Heddle Loom works; * How to Plan a Textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.) * How to Warp a Rigid Heddle; * How to Weave; * How to Remove your Woven; * And, How to Finish a freshly Handwoven Textile. OPTION: Students will weave on my Ashford looms in-class. The instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms (Sample It and Knitters Looms) present for purchase in class. Naturally San Diego, a nonprofit organization dedicated to stimulating growth and entrepreneurship amongst environmentally and socially-conscious consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies throughout San Diego County, is proud to announce the six finalists of its Third Annual Pitch Slam. On the evening of April 27, each finalist will go head-to-head in a competition-style broadcast of San Diego’s most promising group of natural products. Entrepreneurs will take the stage to pitch their emerging brands to a panel of industry-expert judges and local audience members, ultimately winning a suite of prizes from the local San Diego community to help propel their brand’s industry growth. The winner will also represent Naturally San Diego at Natural Products Expo East in September at the national Pitch Slam competition in Philadelphia.
