After-School Painting Class // Ages 6-8 This painting class is designed especially for young artists who are ready to explore the colorful world of painting! Each week introduces a new artistic skill—like mixing colors, using different brushstrokes, and creating simple shapes and textures—while encouraging kids to express their own unique ideas. Students will work with acrylic paints on paper and canvas as they create landscapes, animals, abstract art, and more. Throughout the course, artists will: - Discover primary and secondary colors - Practice brush control and basic painting techniques - Learn how to plan and build a picture step-by-step - Explore creative themes that spark storytelling and self-expression - Build confidence as young artists through positive guidance and fun learning environment By the end of six weeks, each artist will have a portfolio of artwork and a stronger understanding of how to use paint as a tool for creativity. This class is perfect for kids who love to make, imagine, and explore, and who are ready to learn something new, or refine existing painting skills. Join us for an intimate evening, "Music & Masters: Classical-era Vienna and the Fortepiano." Fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz and soprano Jennifer Ellis Kampani present a rare experience of the music of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, performed on the predecessor to the modern piano. This historically informed program recreates the intimate sound world of Classical-era Vienna, where music was written for smaller spaces and lighter instruments than today’s concert halls and modern pianos. About the Artists: Vienna-based fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz specializes in historically informed performance. Called “the foremost performer in the world of the fortepiano” (Aspen Daily News), he has been praised for imbuing “[Beethoven’s] tenderness, longing, and frustration into the very notes” (Orlando Sentinel), for “lavish but tasteful” playing (Classical Sonoma), and as “a privilege to hear” (Marblehead Current). He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, and performs exclusively on historic Viennese fortepianos. GRAMMY-nominated soprano Jennifer Ellis Kampani is known for her expressive interpretations of early repertoire. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall and performed with leading ensembles including American Bach Soloists, Apollo’s Fire, Opera Lafayette, and Portland Baroque Orchestra. A passionate explorer of California’s natural beauty, she also designs a line of one-of-a-kind jewelry featuring ancient abalone and pressed flowers, as well as a boutique clothing line inspired by her photography and collage art. They will play music by a range of Latin American composers in this three concert series. This year's finale, "The Pride of the Caribbean and Spanish Flair," is a celebration of strings. This concert will feature Francisco Vila on the cello, Isaac Allen on violin I, Batya MacAdam-Somer on violin II, Travis Maril on viola, and Lars Hoefs on cello.
