The Native American Heritage Festival is a free, vibrant community event full of family-friendly entertainment and activities for all ages to enjoy. Music, movement, food, storytelling and art are on full display through a packed lineup of shows, hands-on cultural and art booths, food vendors and more. Hosted by the Native Youth Foundation, the inaugural Native American Heritage Festival is bringing together tribes across Southern California to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day and celebrate Native voices that are bolstering creativity and connection in the community. Panel Information: "Diplomacy and Lucha Libre: Same Battles, Different Arenas" As part of the exhibit "Sangre, Sudor y Mito: The Art and Tradition of Mexican Lucha Libre," the multifaceted Mexican-American professional wrestler Thunder Rosa and the Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, Alicia Kerber, will hold a conversation about the challenges that Mexican women face in careers as different as professional wrestlers and career diplomats. The history of Mexican luchadoras as part of the lucha libre universe was neglected and overlooked, with female matches being banned for more than 30 years. Similarly, Mexican women diplomats have faced discrimination through the years, with fewer opportunities and unbalanced representation. Yiddish Classes for Absolute Beginners 2 Basic Grammar and Conversation NEW! 8-Session Yiddish Course This course is perfect for those who have completed the course Yiddish for Absolute Beginners, as well as others who can already read the Yiddish Alef-Beys and have had around 10 hours of prior instruction (about A1.1 level). Among other things, students will learn to write in Yiddish, practice introducing themselves and using everyday greetings, and become familiar with common verbs. While the main emphasis is on consolidating elementary grammar, the course also employs a multimedia approach to introduce students to Yiddish culture, literature, and music through short texts, audiovisual materials, and guided exercises.
