  • Bakunawa Market is an ancestral and spiritual marketplace rooted in Filipino heritage and healing. Inspired by the Babaylan, the healers and spirit-keepers of pre-colonial Philippines, the market offers a sacred space to remember our roots, reconnect with ancestral wisdom, and restore spiritual balance. The free, two-day community event features 30+ makers, healers, and artists – from ceramists, jewelers, and visual artists to herbalists, tarot readers, energy workers, and culinary creators – whose work reflects ancestral wisdom, decolonial practices, and spiritual connection. The Bakla Collective will also be featured, showcasing Queer Filipinx creators and centering equity and representation within San Diego’s creative community. Enjoy live performances, a Sunday workshop lineup – including Intro to Mediumship, Zero-Waste Candle Making, and Yoga + Sound: Collective Healing – and Kamayan by Kujo Eats (Sunday, 5-7 p.m.). Kamayan, meaning "by hand" in Tagalog, is a traditional communal feast where guests share food with their hands, scooping rice and dishes on a table lined with banana leaves. Thoughtfully curated by elders, each dish celebrates the true flavors of our ancestors, with a special spread featuring grilled pompano, fried bangus, BBQ chicken leg quarters, beef kare kare, pork BBQ skewers, and garlic rice. The free event will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in San Diego’s Mission Bay. It will bring together small business owners, industry leaders, and partner organizations for a day of education, networking, and inspiration. The conference is designed to address the challenges faced by food and beverage entrepreneurs, from navigating marketing trends and distribution to building brand awareness and securing financing. Attendees will hear from Maya Madsen, owner of Maya’s Cookies, who is celebrating 10 years in business, during an inspiring fireside chat. The day will also feature breakout sessions on marketing, sales, and growth strategies and practical insights from industry experts and local small business owners. Beyond educational programming, participants can network with partner organizations, mentors, and fellow entrepreneurs throughout the day, including during meals, breaks, and a closing happy hour with bites and hosted beverages from Samuel Adams. “With Brewing the American Dream, we’ve seen firsthand how access to the right resources, mentorship, and community can transform a small business,” said Jennifer Glanville Love, brewer and director of partnerships at Boston Beer. “Crafted for Success is about bringing entrepreneurs together in one room to garner invaluable insight from experts, connect with peers, and leave inspired with the tools and confidence to take their businesses to the next level.” Registration for Crafted for Success is free, though space is limited. Entrepreneurs and community members interested in attending can sign up through the official event page here. You must be 21+ to attend. “Small food and beverage businesses are the heart of our communities, yet their journey is often filled with barriers,” said Accessity CEO Mar Diteos. “Through Crafted for Success, we aim to give entrepreneurs the tools and knowledge they need and the confidence and connections to take the next step forward.” Since 2013, Accessity and Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream have partnered to provide resources, education, and funding opportunities to food and beverage entrepreneurs across Southern California. The organizations have hosted numerous events over the past decade, including the popular Speed Coaching event that has connected hundreds of small business owners with industry experts for one-on-one guidance. The Crafted for Success conference builds on this history of collaboration, expanding the reach and depth of support available to entrepreneurs in the region. • San Diego Folk Heritage welcomes back performers and audience members for our annual Train Song Festival! The cast will be performing selected songs in this sneak preview performance! 11 am: Bill Dempsey continues the classic folksinger tradition, and sings more traditional songs, especially train ones, than you can shake a stick at. We are thrilled to have him back down from Orange County! Noon: Gayle Skidmore is a seven-time San Diego Music Award nominee who has written over 2500 songs. Classically trained on the piano from the age of four, she plays over twenty other instruments, including the mountain dulcimer, banjo, folk harp, and balalaika. 1 pm: UL Standard is a local San Diego trio. They perform at various venues throughout the city. The band offers a unique blend of Americana and funky folk. 2 pm: SDFH’s own JT Moring is a dynamic entertainer known for incisive songs, stories, and audience engagement. He performs original and traditional songs on guitar and banjo, accompanied by Terry Wardell on bass, Richie Strell on harmonicas, and maybe a special guest or two for this special performance. 3 pm: Sara Petite is an outlaw country headliner whose music reaches far beyond the genre’s borders. She has built an award-winning career with songs that owe as much to the rock ‘n’ roll roadhouse as they do the honky-tonk. San Diego Folk Heritage on Facebook / Instagram
