We're opening our doors to share how San Diego youth are using media arts to express themselves and change their communities. Join us for an evening of hands-on activities where you can create your own art alongside our young artists. Try making zines, taking creative portraits, painting in virtual reality, or designing kaleidoscope art. Watch films made by our students and browse their powerful publications about issues that matter to them. This free event welcomes everyone – families, educators, artists, and anyone curious about youth media arts. Our students and staff will be there to guide you through activities and share their stories. It's a chance to see firsthand how creativity empowers young people. We're hoping to bring together hundreds of community members who believe in the power of youth voice. Come discover what happens when you put creative tools in the hands of young people. The seasons are changing, and it’s a beautiful time of year to celebrate by creating whimsical fused glass art for your garden or windows! Your bright and cheerful sun catchers and garden sticks will make your garden, indoor potted plants, or windows sparkle! Instructor Suzanne Balestri will guide you in glass cutting techniques an design considerations to create your own artful creations to compliment your garden or to display in a sunny window. You will also receive two instructional videos a few days before the workshop so you’ll have a head start on what to expect. Students can make up to 3 pieces measuring approximately 1.5” x 11” each. All glass art will be kiln-fired after class and ready for pick up at the Craft Collective approximately one week after class. All materials are included, including 2 pre-class video instructions, and materials and firing for 3 glass pieces. Additional pieces can be made in class for $5 each (payable with cash in class). Through a visceral blend of body painting, live improvisational dance and violin, projection, and generative sound, "My Body's Wake" navigates the emotional terrains of grief, isolation, anger, and care - rooted in the artists' experience with chronic pain and dynamic disability. "Sensory Dimensions" depicts the experiences of disabled people with chronic illness and pain by immersing audiences in multi-sensory environments using a diverse range of artistic modalities to create accessible live art events. Founded by interdisciplinary dancer Casey Hall-Landers and multimedia violinist Elicia Neo through the Berklee NYC Masters program in Creative Media and Technology, the duo is fueled by a passion to create safe and welcoming spaces for all. "Sensory Dimensions" explores and recontextualizes pain through sensory and artistic pathways, using nature as a mirror to understand our bodies and integrating accessible design into their creative work.
