Data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic suggests reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases have declined, but experts at UC San Diego's AntiViral Research Center Monday said rates could soon be on the rise again.

On their second day operating the San Diego Convention Center as a shelter for unaccompanied migrant girls, federal and local authorities began seeking sponsors and providing care for the 723 who have arrived so far, including 70 who have tested positive for COVID-19.

A wind advisory will be in effect from midnight until 3 p.m. Wednesday in the mountains and western valleys.

Local public health officials reported 290 new infections among county residents and an uptick in hospitalizations.

Dozens of the more than 500 unaccompanied migrant children being held at the San Diego Convention Center, girls between the ages of 13 and 17, have tested positive for COVID-19.

The changes are aimed at providing transparency and consistency to reduce the negative impacts of city sidewalk-cleanup activities on people experiencing homelessness.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.

Earlier this month, supervisors unanimously voted to oppose any further placements of sexually violent predators until local jurisdictions are able to fully participate in the placement process, including having full veto authority.
