A local playwright has taken on one of the most enigmatic figures in American literature, poet Emily Dickinson. Lynx Performance Theatre will stage the drama Dickinson: The Secret Story of Emily Dickinson, portraying the reclusive poet as a brilliant, bold and sexual woman frustrated with Victorian society and suffering from bouts of mental illness.

Common Ground Theatre is staging a world premiere musical about the lives of jazz vocalists Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. The oldest African American theater company in San Diego is also under new leadership. Arts producer Angela Carone has this story.

The La Jolla Playhouse stages the world premiere of "Restoration" next week. It's a play inspired by the true story of a woman who restored Michelangelo's David for its 500th anniversary. La Jolla Playhouse stages celebrated playwright Terrence McNally's latest drama Unusual Acts of Devotion. In the play, McNally charts damaged souls and damaged cities, loves lost and recovered, and the joys of simple but enduring acts of devotion.

GOOD BOYS is the story of two men, one black and one white, who meet eight years after a school shooting in which both their sons died, one a victim, the other the shooter. As the fathers search for understanding and viciously cast blame, they confront difficult questions about vengeance and responsibility. We'll talk with Mo'olelo's Artistic Director, an actor from the play, and psychologist Dr. Ken Druck.

Cornelia Wallace was a former beauty queen who became the second wife of segregationist governor George Wallace. The Old Globe's new play Cornelia tells the story of their marriage and was written by Mark Olsen, the creator and writer of the HBO hit series Big Love about a polygamous family in Utah.
