SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Teams from Canada, Mexico and the United States will face off later this week in the final round of the eighth National Geographic World Championship.
Students from the three North American countries beat out competition from 14 other nations. Those contestants included teens from as far afield as Argentina, Australia, Ghana, India, Russia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
The teams advanced past a written exam and an outdoor mapping activity held this morning at SeaWorld Adventure Park.
The National Geographic Society organizes the event every two years.
Four-time champion the United States will defend its title at a final at SeaWorld's Shamu Stadium on Thursday.
