Bring It On

& ldquo;You're confusing everyone! & You're doing it all wrong!! This is really important what you're doing! Don't screw it up! & rdquo; she screamed at me while rifling through the stack of multi-colored, three-ring-binders filled with names, addresses, political affiliations, and just as many omissions. & ldquo;She's just old, & rdquo; I told myself, as I tried self righteously to defend my unintentional mistakes, and to reassure her I could not single-handedly ruin the primaries.

At the end of the night, with so much at stake in a historic election, in a time of international violence and upheaval surrounding democracy, this woman and I were free to dislike each other and still do a pretty good job collecting ballots. The precinct hosted over 700 voters yesterday, and did so with relatively few glitches.

It was nice knowing that in a hotly debated presidential campaign, with so many good reasons to look at the & ldquo;big picture, & rdquo; two people had time to bicker. &

And to a limited degree she was right. & Working the polls is really important.
