Citizen Voices

I, like a lot of San Diegans, didn't vote today.  I just recently moved to a new district, and found out I couldn't register in time for this election.  This saddens me some, as this year I've gotten much more interested in the voting process.

Now, as I start watching the returns creep in, I sigh a heavy sigh and wonder why I didn't register my new voting adress earlier.  My fellow bloggers all got to speak their mind through their votes, but I feel the self-imposed neutering of my thoughts already.

REASON NUMBER 1 FOR NOT VOTING-- IN SAN DIEGO, VOTING IS SUPER-FLOUS. PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT UNCONTESTED RACES AT THE STATE LEVEL. HOW ABOUT SUPERVISORS -OLE' GREG COX, BILL HORN, PAM SLATER-PRICE, RONNIE ROBERTS, DIANE JACOBS? THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND IN THE SAME OFFICE SINCE WYATT EARP LEFT TOWN. THEY JUST KEEP RUNNING AND RUNNING LIKE THE EVERYREADY BUNNY, WITH NO OPPOSITION. THEY GET A TOTALLY FREE RIDE.... THEY WORK IN SECRET, TRAVEL THE WORLD ON A YEAR-ROUND FREE TRAVEL PASS AND HOBNOB WITH THE CREME DE LA CREME ON ALL CONTINENTS. NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET. AND WHO SAID THAT THERE ARE NO MORE JOBS WHICH LAST A LIFETIME? WHAT A SWEETHEART DEAL! WHERE DO I APPLY?

@Greg Duch, I don't think Wyatt Earp has left town. He just changed his name to Ron Roberts. Shave off the beard, cut the hair, put him in pin-stripes, and look real carefully. See it? Not yet? Squint a bit more. @Steven Garrett, you're a political blogger, and YOU DIDN'T VOTE? Pardon my Freedom, but OMG! You do know that you could have still voted in your old precinct? You do know that you could have voted a provisional ballot at the registrar's office? You know that, don't you? Good God, if this is all it takes to blog for KPBS, Greg Duch and I should have our own blogs. Frankly, some of Greg's comments are more entertaining than the blogs (only some; don't get puffed up).

I think it really boils down to the fact most San Diegans simply don't care enough to vote! I didn't vote myself, so I lose every right to complain about the new mayor OR if the propositions pass.
