San Diego's 'Dancing Waters' May Dry Up

It could be the last waltz for the popular Dancing Waters feature welcoming tourists to the Gaslamp District near the San Diego Convention Center.

The Gaslamp Square Park water feature - with 40 streams of water shooting 30 feet up - may be turned off to save nearly $40,000 a year and about 1,000 gallons of water a day.

Downtown merchants who help maintain the fountain want the city to help them redesign the plaza without the costly water feature.

The Dancing Waters' 1,000 gallons of water usage each day is equal to three times the typical daily water use at a single-family home.
