Local Iraqi Americans Prepare for Parliamentary Elections
Aired 2/23/10
Pres. Obama's deadline of August, 2010, to remove combat troops from Iraq is fast approaching. We'll talk about U.S. Iraqi policy and the impact on local Iraqi-American communities.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq Affairs Michael Corbin will hold Iraqi American community meetings on Tuesday February 23, at 7 p.m. at the Royal Palace in El Cajon and Wednesday, February 24, at 7 p.m. at Kurdish Human Rights Watch Offices in El Cajon.
Maureen Cavanaugh: As the focus of America's military efforts shifts to Afghanistan, we don't hear as much about the situation in Iraq. And in this case, no news, if not exactly good news, is better news than we've heard for years coming from that country. This is a big year for the nation of Iraq, emerging from U.S. occupation into full autonomy. And for San Diego's Iraq community, it's a time full of questions and concerns about the future of their families here and in Iraq.
