San Diego To Show Off New Purple Heart Stamp

Our president awards the Purple Heart to troops injured or killed while in combat. Now the the United States Postal Service is honoring those servicemembers’ sacrifices with a new stamp that depicts the Purple Heart, and the agency has chosen the the USS Midway in San Diego Bay as the place to unveil the new stamp. The special ceremony will take place Thursday at 11 a.m., marking the Purple Heart stamp’s first day of issue. (Read more)

I'm glad to see this medal has reached its former glory. When I was in the army the Purple Heart was tainted by troops in the 1983 invasion of Grenada. So little action took place that brave paratroopers were shooting themselves in the foot or arm to get the award.

Only when the army medical officers noted the wounds seemed to be the same and when an officer of the guard caught an unlucky soldier in the act was a stop put to this. Soldiers on guard were issued only 3 bullets. It was definitely a different army then.
