Starting the Halloween Celebration A Little Early

This weekend you can start celebrating Halloween a little early with Day of the Dead events, Thrill-O-Rama, and Wicked Bugs, plus enjoy some Shakespeare sonnets and a new film from Columbia.

This weekend you can start celebrating Halloween a little early with Day of the Dead events, Thrill-O-Rama, and Wicked Bugs, plus enjoy some Shakespeare sonnets and a new film from Columbia.

Resurreccion the opening reception for Un Día de los Muertos con Arte Fresca, a show featuring visual art by more than 14 artists. The party includes sounds by OMFG Zombies, live Day of the Dead make-up art, and live art by Kristen Argerake, Konstant, and Callie Himsl.

Resurreccion starts at 7pm this Friday at The Bluefoot Bar & Lounge.

FilmOut San Diego hosts Thrill-O-Rama, a 12-hour horror marathon featuring 6 cult classics from the 1970s: The Fog, Burnt Offerings, Eyes of Laura Mars, Dressed to Kill, Black Christmas, Suspiria. Here's the trailer for "Burnt Offerings."

Thrill-O-Rama is this Saturday from noon to midnight at the Birch North Park Theater.

Author Amy Stewart talks about her book, "Wicked Bugs: The Louse that Conquered Napoleon’s Army and Other Insect Monstrosities” for the San Diego Horticultural Society. Enjoy an “undoubtedly creepy, crawly tour of some of the world’s most notorious garden inhabitants.” Stewart appears in this parody of 1950s educational films, this time focusing on bugs.

Amy Stewart will be speaking Monday from 6-9pm at the San Diego Horticultural Society which meets at the Surfside Race Place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

San Diego Latino Film Festival continues its 2011 annual Cinema en tu Idioma film series with an evocative love story from Colombia: "Del Amor Y Otros Demonios."

Del Amor Y Otros Demonios begins a one-week run at the UltraStar Mission Valley Theaters at Hazard Center on Friday.

The surf culture is celebrated with Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo, an event featuring vendor exhibits, laminating exhibits, a humanitarian auction (because surfers are good Samaritans), vintage surfboard and memorabilia appraisals, a shape-off, live music, skateboard exhibit, surf movies, a live art studio, and more!

Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo is this Saturday and Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

The San Diego Shakespeare Society holds it annual Celebrity Sonnets Monday night at the Old Globe Theatre starting at 7:30pm.
