Specialty Produce Farmer's Market Bag

Above: Farmer's Market Bag

Eating seasonally is a new idea for most of us. With produce and products from around the world as close as the local supermarket, there's been no reason to restrict our ingredients to what's in season. But things have changed.

Environmentalists, sustainability experts and people just interested in tasty food, are now advocating for local, seasonal eating. Luckily in San Diego, that gives us lots of options. We start an occasional series today called, Eating Seasonally.

It is great to see attention to this growing area of interest. I am the program manager for the locally grown produce offerings at the company I work for here in San Diego. Moceri Produce has worked together with local growers for years and we currently offer their products to the local restaurant and foodservice. I was an organic farmer before I came t work for Moceri and found it a great opportunity to work with a distributor to carry the product yet be able to market the veggies to the chefs locally.

We love what Connelly Gardens, Suzie's Farm, Beck Grove Blue Heron Farm and others are offering to the community and appreciate the opportunity to distribute it to interested customers.

Thank you for shining the light on this vital process that helps our local economy, ecology and health.
