More than 300 injured military athletes are at Camp Pendleton today for the the third annual Marine Corps Trials.

During the trials, 50 Marines will be selected for the All-Marine Warrior Games team to compete in the 2013 Wounded Warrior Games.

The U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment is hosting the trials, which start today and run through March 6, according to a Marine Corps news release.

The athletes taking part in the competition are active-duty, reserve, and veteran Marines - competing in sports like swimming, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair basketball.

The Marine Corps Trials is part of the Regiment’s Warrior Athlete Reconditioning program:

[This program] provides activities and opportunities for wounded, ill, and injured Marines to train as athletes, while increasing their strength so they can continue with military service or develop healthy habits for life outside the service.

The 2013 Wounded Warrior Games are slated to take place in May at the Olympic Training Center and the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
