Fire agencies throughout the county are holding a drill this week to prepare for what could be a busy wildfire season. The drill starts today. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has the story.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Navy will join various fire agencies from across the county for the drill in Dos Picos Park in Ramona. They plan to brush up on firefighting kills, including helicopter water drops, and to improve communication between agencies. Drill spokesman Mitch Villalpando says the glut of tall grasses from recent rains will mean a demanding fire season.

Villalpando: Because they're light, when they start to burn they really burn quickly, and if the fire gets moving and there's a wind behind it, those light, flashy fuels are real hard to catch, and that could lead up into heavier fuels, and then we're off to the races.
