Critics of a plan to redevelop the 15-acre Navy Broadway Complex site say recent changes proposed by the developer should serve as a wake-up call to San Diego. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has the story.
Charles Kaminsky is a member of the Broadway Complex Coalition. The environmental group believes a 1992 agreement that outlines what can be built on the Navy Broadway Complex is outdated because of massive downtown growth. Kaminsky says developer Doug Manchester's recently revised plans to increase the number of high rise buildings and reduce open space on the site should give citizens pause about the whole deal.
We need to stop, evaluate, and take another look at this, do we want more development, primarily hotels and offices along the waterfront, or do we want something that benefits the entire citizens of San Diego.
A public discussion on the issue is scheduled for June 3rd at the San Diego Community Concourse. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS News.
