Tensions over San Diego’s Navy Broadway project are rising, as the developer puts pressure on the city’s redevelopment agency to approve his plans. At stake is the future of one of San Diego’s most high profile bay front sites .
Developer Doug Manchester’s attorney says unless the Center City Development Corporation approves the plans next week, there wont be time to get Congress’s approval on the lease agreement by the end of the year.
CCDC chair Jennifer Lesar, says the city needs more time to decide on the landmark project. She says the developer could go ahead and meet his deadline independently. Manchester attorney Steven Strauss says that’s not likely.
Strauss: "That’s not her concern. As a public body that’s responsible for making this consistency determination, all they’re supposed to do it set a hearing and do their job...vote on the project ."
Strauss says Manchester has already spent over $3 million on the project. He says the developer doesn’t want to threaten a lawsuit, but he will not risk signing an agreement before getting the city’s approval. Alison St John, KPBS News.
