Job Growth Booming Inland

If you’re looking for a job, the place to go may be away from the big coastal cities.  A new report says job growth is booming inland. Jenny O’Mara reports.

The report by the California Budget Project shows job growth has shifted away from the coast—and the San Francisco Bay Area-- and inland over the last fifteen years. Executive Director Jean Ross says the number of jobs in inland counties increased by more than 45 percent between 1990 and 2005—almost five times the increase in coastal county jobs.

Ross: This is a case of where jobs or job growth has followed the workforce. People moved further out from the traditional urban centers in California and the jobs have then come afterwards…”

She says policymakers and planners should pay attention to this trend. With population and job growth there will be increasing needs for things like roads and schools.
