Investigators from the California State Bar are asking questions about the conduct of San Diego City Attorney Mike Aguirre. One of those questioned was City Council President Scott Peters. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps has more.
Scott Peters has a publicly contentious relationship with the city attorney. Peters revealed on KPBS Radio's “These Days” that he had been questioned about Aguirre.
Peters : You know, I've been speaking for a long time about how difficult it is to be in a situation as an organization where the person who's supposed to be advising you is attacking you using legal means.
Peters says the Bar may be concerned that Aguirre is breaching the very definition of an attorney-client relationship. Aguirre has taken the city to court over pension benefits -- even though the city is his client.
The California Bar won't confirm the investigation, and Aguirre won't talk about it.
