Tom Fudge: On Friday evening, architects, planners, designers and others gathered at the North Park Theater in San Diego for the Orchids and Onions awards ceremony. The Orchids and Onions make up an annual event that hands out some praise and some barbs. The Orchid awards are given out to some of the best of the new architecture in our area. But then there are the Onions. Those are the booby prizes, so to speak, which are given to architectural projects that are ugly, uninspired and harmful to the environment.
For anyone who ever admires or admonishes our built environment, this is a subject that leads to some fun conversations. And we're going to have one of those chats for the remainder of our show. Joining me to talk about a few of this year's Orchids and Onions are David McCullough and Chuck Crawford.
