Super Tuesday extends south of the border this year. Expatriate voters in Mexico who are registered Democrats can vote online or cast a paper ballot in today's presidential primary. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
The Democratic Party is holding its first ever global primary. The party has set up seven polling places in Mexico and 27 more around the world.
Ex-patriots can go to these polls abroad to cast a ballot. Or, for the first time ever, they can vote online.
Howard Feldstein chairs Democrats Abroad in Mexico. He says they used to hold caucuses, but decided to change that.
Feldstein: We wanted to allow Americans that live in the Antarctic or some other remote areas to participate just as much as those living in other more concentrated areas. By holding this global primary, we're giving voice to many more than we've been able to do in the past.
Democrats abroad count as the 51st state for the national party. They send 22 delegates to the party's convention. The Republican Party does not have an international branch.
