Tom Fudge: The 1960’s brought a lot of changes to American culture, and they brought some dramatic changes to the movie industry as well. By the time of the Sixties, the old way of making movies was on its last legs. The studio system, with its powerful producers, its production code, and its stable of stars was coming to an end. Its end was being pushed along by the French New Wave and some other dynamic, daring film making that was mainly coming from Europe.
