A new poll shows no clear-cut leader in the race for San Diego City Attorney. Incumbent Mike Aguirre and ex-judge Jan Goldsmith are the likeliest candidates for a November runoff election. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps has details.
Aguirre and Goldsmith have the most support in a Competitive Edge Research poll. But neither candidate has enough support to win more than 50 percent of the vote in June. That would lead to a two-person runoff in November.
Pollster John Nienstedt says City Council President Scott Peters, attorney Amy Lepine, and city councilman Brian Maienschein are falling behind in their bid for the runoff race. Maienschein comes in fourth, even though he has, by far, the most campaign money.
Nienstedt : He gets all of his support basically from his fifth district. He has not broken out of the fifth district. As a matter of fact, everywhere else, he's well low in the single digits. I think the most he gets is about seven percent.
Nienstedt says 30 percent of respondents are undecided.
The local Republican Party paid for the survey.
