I thought I'd give you the latest scoop on what's happening in my neck of the woods this Thursday and Friday. San Diego North County educators are encouraging adults over the age of 18 to gather around local freeway overpasses with signs saying "Enough is Enough!" or "Education Cuts Don't Heal" to show the Governorator and state legislators that they are angry about the proposed cuts to education. They're calling this event the "No Cuts To Education Rally and Overpass March. If you're interested in voicing your concern or just love to hang out near freeway traffic on a Friday night, then go to the Carlsbad School Disctrict web site to read where the four rally locations will be held.
While I respect their enthusiastic efforts, I wonder will key legislators even hear about the rally? Will all of their colorful posters make a difference? Will drivers passing under their gatherings take notice and be intrigued enough to become more educated on this issue and then voice their own concerns? Is there anything parents and teachers can do to point more education dollars in their direction? Is there a presidential candidate who can or will make a difference for good in the California school districts? Are you willing to pull more money out of your pocket to pay for education for our state's children, whether you personally have a child or not?
If you'd like to learn more about the state's budget crisis and how it might affect our children's education, take the opportunity to hear first hand from superintendents of Del Mar, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, and San Dieguito School Districts at the annual North Coastal Superintendent's Forum this Thursday, April 17th from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at Solana Pacific Elementary School located at 3901 Townsgate Drive in San Diego. There will be presentations given by school superintendents, followed by a question and answer period.
