A new report says Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed budget will create one-million more uninsured people in the state. The study comes from the non-profit group Health Access California. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
To help balance the state budget, the governor is proposing a number of cuts to Medi-Cal and other public health insurance programs. The budget would reduce eligibility for low-income working adults. It would also require people who've already qualified to prove their eligibility four times a year. Anthony Wright directs Health Access California. He says one-million people would lose coverage.
Wright: The governor's proposed cuts would represent the most profound rollback of health coverage and health protections in state history, that is the severity of this proposal.
Governor Schwarzenegger concedes his budget will be tough on many Californians. But he says the state can't spend money it doesn't have.
