Tom Fudge: Water makes life possible, and it's what's made life in California possible. But quenching our thirst over the years has required massive movements of water supplies and some very nasty political fights. Today, the growth of our state has made conflicts over water even more intense. And, many people believe we have entered what's best described as a permanent drought. There's no doubt San Diego will be affected. In fact, San Diego has always had the disadvantage of being at the end of the line when it comes to water, whether that water comes from the Colorado River or the Sacramento Delta.
Rita Schmidt Sudman is executive director of the Water Education Foundation. And she's editor of the Western Water magazine. She's in town to speak tonight at the Natural History Museum. And, she joins me this morning to provide a little historical perspective to our current water problems.
Rita will be speaking tonight at 6:30pm on Water: Conflict in California and the West at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.
