This is the first ever Culture Lust gift guide, where I share my gift ideas for the arts and culture lovers on your list. I did throw in some design-y options, as well as a few that are just plain fun and clever. I've included gifts in a range of prices from a mix of local and online sources. I hope these suggestions inspire and help ease the pain of holiday shopping madness.
Let's just get this first one out of the way. Just released on December 9th is the Complete Series DVD Gift Set of The Wire . Now I normally wouldn't suggest a gift that costs $250, but you all know how I feel about The Wire and you don't need me to tell you over and over again how it's worth every cent. The HBO shop actually has a lot of good gifts for the tv-lovers among us. The Fangtasia t-shirt for the True Blood fan is a must. I'm not a fan of Entourage , I think it's boring and repetitive, but the "Suits Suck" t-shirt is pretty good.
Not to be outdone, Showtime has done something really smart and forward-thinking. They've partnered with SCAD , the Savannah College of Art and Design, one of the leading design schools in the country, to have SCAD students design products related to their shows. You can buy artist designed blood splatter pillows inspired by Dexter , and a grocery bag inspired by Weeds . I love Dexter , but I don't know if I could pull off the body parts earrings ( Beth Accomando would LOVE these!).
