Reviving The Spirit in Film

Beth Accomando reviews the new film The Spirit, based on the comic strip by Will Eisner.

Reviving The Spirit in Film

Tom Fudge : Will Eisner's The Spirit was a comic that debuted in 1940 as an insert in Sunday papers. Now Frank Miller, Eisner's friend and fellow comic book writer and artist, is adapting The Spirit to the big screen. Previously, Miller co-directed the film adaptation of his graphic novel "Sin City" with film director Robert Rodriguez. For his first solo directing project, Miller decided not to work from his own material but rather to work with Will Eisner's stuff.

The Spirit is a cop who died and returned from the dead to watch over his city. He was a superhero who wore a mask but no tights or cape. Here's the trailer that introduces The Spirit to audiences.
