A group of graduate students in Boston plans to study how accurately new outlets on both sides of the border cover Rosarito Beach. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
Gregory Payne teaches communications studies at Emerson College in Boston.
He has fond memories of Rosarito from his graduate school days and still visits about a half a dozen times a year.
Payne says a newspaper story he read after one trip caught his eye. It was about people avoiding the toll road between Tijuana and Rosarito because they were scared. But Payne says that isn't what he saw when he was there. That's the impetus for his new web site Rosaritofactcheck.org.
Payne: For instance, if you heard someone was raped, decapitated, whatever, we would try to search and see if there's any verification of that and if there was, give the details.
If there isn't, Payne and his students will let people know.
Payne says the site aims is to promote good journalism and to give potential tourists hard facts.
