As Fairgoers check out the new live sea lion show and sign up to sing in the IV Idol contest, we thought it would be a good time to check in on how the Imperial Valley is performing during the recession.
We most often hear that the city of El Centro, in Imperial County, holds the infamous distinction of being the community with the highest unemployment rate in the nation. That, of course, tells us something about the economic suffering being felt in the Imperial Valley. But civic leaders say the unemployment numbers do not tell the whole story. Much about the economy in the Imperial Valley is unique. And there are a number of projects the community is anticipating to boost IV's economic outlook.
