In documents filed in bankruptcy court, the U.S. Dept. of Justice filed a $112.8 million dollar claim against the now defunct San Diego Hospice for submitting “false claims,” among other things.
The federal government also indicated it’s conducting a criminal investigation “to determine whether any federal health care offenses... have been committed.”
A KPBS/inewsource investigation examines that question medically, financially, politically — and just as importantly — personally.
San Diego Hospice filed for bankruptcy earlier this year in the midst of a Medicare audit looking into whether it took patients into care who were not eligible.
