Businesses that were charged fees for credit card transactions may be able to get some of their money back as part of a $6 billion swipe fee settlement with Visa and MasterCard.

Businesses that were charged fees for credit card transactions may be able to get some of their money back as part of a $6 billion swipe fee settlement with Visa and MasterCard.

The national not-for-profit public charity Consejo de Latinos Unidos is helping businesses file claims. Executive Director K.B. Forbes said claiming the money can be a hassle for small business owners.

"We want to make sure that San Diego businesses know that there are resources available, that they can get reimbursed those swipe fees that they have paid," he said at a news conference.

Forbes said businesses have until mid-September to file claims.
