The San Diego County Administration Center is home to a new 12-acre waterfront park.

Festivities planned for Saturday’s opening of the 12-acre waterfront park at the County Administration Center include dancing, music and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The park includes an 830-foot-long fountain that runs nearly the length of the park and has 31 jets that shoot water 14 feet into the air and down into a shallow splash area for children. An expansive lawn, three differently themed gardens and a large playground are also at the park, which encompasses a former parking lot and grass area.

Parking for the county building was moved into a new underground garage.

A ribbon-cutting will feature 1,600 feet of red ribbon and 300-plus pairs of scissors. At least 120 youngsters from around the county will be involved in the ribbon-cutting, according to the office of Supervisor Ron Roberts.

Mary Roosevelt, a daughter-in-law of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who dedicated the County Administration Center in 1938, is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony.

The festivities also will feature musical and dance performances, a classic car show, food trucks, a farmers' market and games.

County officials urge attendees to take the trolley to the County Center/Little Italy station.
