A man reported to be a security guard has been shot at the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Suitland, Md., on Thursday.
The Washington Post reports that a police spokesman said the adult male was guarding a gate outside the facility. His condition was "extremely critical," according to Mark Brady, a spokesman for Prince George's County Fire Department.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was at the scene of an "active shooter incident" at the Bureau.
Local reporters on the scene say police officers have cordoned off the campus and other officers in tactical gear have moved into the building.

In a statement, the U.S. Census Bureau said there had been "an incident" at their campus in Suitland.
"We are committed to the safety of all staff who work at the Census Bureau and are currently making sure that everyone is safe and secure," the statement read.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was at the scene of an "active shooter incident" at the Bureau.
