Small businesses are the backbone of San Diego's economy.
Seventy-four percent of employers in the county of San Diego have 10 or fewer employees, said Sean Karafin, vice president of public policy & economic research at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday, was created by American Express to draw more customers to local shops.
Karafin joins Midday Edition on Friday to discuss the importance of spending money locally to support small businesses.
