Mayor Kevin Faulconer meets with President Trump

While in Washington, D.C. this week for a series of meetings on cross-border issues, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer was invited to the White House for an unexpected talk with President Donald Trump. The two discussed the proposed United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement and the federal government’s role in fixing the sewage spills from Tijuana. The meeting came just before Trump traveled to Florida to kick off his reelection campaign.

On the ground in Honduras

Voice of San Diego’s Maya Srikrishnan recently traveled to Honduras to cover the origins of the migrant caravans that often end up at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Criminal violence, state crackdowns on dissent, and a lack of economic opportunity are among the reasons people choose to leave. Most of the people who make up the recent surge in border crossings come from the Central American countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
